Krystal Chesnutt, Co-founder of Black Dog School of Yoga.

I love being curious about how my body moves and how to navigate it when it feels lost.  I teach from how I know to move in mine.

 The physical yoga practice is a major aspect of my life, but it has always been about weaving in metaphors and life-isms that gave my practice meaning, virtue and pleasure. Once I understood that accomplishing the poses was not going to yield more alertness in my life, I integrated a practice inspired by Katonah Yoga. The theory of Katonah yoga integrates into one’s practices and life. It helps better discern blind spots in the body which unveils blind spots in one’s world.  The practice offers techniques to see that my body is an exact imprint of my mind.  My appetite for a richer more satisfying life, paired well with the maps and tools provided by the archetypes of Katonah Yoga.  These archetypes help me remember to find the middle, the center of my body and my circumstances, the place from which I can see everything  on all sides and from there I can make well informed decisions.

Krystal has trained for well over a decade in many schools of yoga including Vinyasa, Hatha, Alignment, Yin and Katonah. She is dedicated to her own seat of a student with continual studying and growing her own practice.

Going inward isn't easy, but it’s the most rewarding thing I've done in my entire life. I've learned things about the way I work that I could have never discovered asking someone else. And by going inward I've enjoyed the outward so much more.  Through yoga I've learned to fit myself before I fit others.  I've learned that yoga is not about a performance or achieving a peak pose, it's about using it for life - when you're physically hurt, when you're emotionally hurt.  Through meditation I've learned to go deep within to answer all the questions I have about myself and about life.  Most importantly I've learned that this is a new way of life. Not just techniques I practice, but the foundation from which I live a successful and happy life.

Carisa has over 20,000 combined hours of research and training in the following areas: Neurofeedback, Meditation, Shamanism, Reiki, Yoga, Buddhist Psychology, Yoga Psychology, and Katonah Yoga.  She is continually studying in order to bring ancient methods of healing to the modern world.
